Everything must go - only the floor and lighting stays!
Refrigerator area - Before
Microwave/Desk area - Before
The cabinets look much better in the pictures than they do in reality. This particular cabinet, along with two others, are being re-purposed in the garage.
Desk/Counter area before - This is where the stove top will go.
Packing up and cleaning out!
Hutch area before - The hutch found a good home at Alec and Kim's. There will be a wine center here.
The table and chairs also found a good home with Kim and Eric.
All that wallpaper has to go!
Hutch area - before
Fridge area - before
Stove Area - before - this will become a pantry, and the new ovens will be relocated.
Microwave - Before. This is where the new ovens will go. I'll be glad to get rid of the crappy, press-board cabinets clad in wood-look decals.
Day one - Demo time! All the cabinets are gone!
Corner cabinets, desk and angled wall - Gone! We're reclaiming that dead space.
This is where the desk and angled wall were.
Cabinet over the fridge is gone, and will be replaced with a taller, deeper cabinet. The fridge stays plugged in and working until the new one arrives.
Old ovens gone, and wall cut out for new pantry.
Tools of the trade.
Wallboard is scored to get ready for removal. The hutch replacement will be recessed into the wall.
Day 2 - Rebuild and strip. The framing for the new wine cabinet is in. Ready for the electrician. Wallpaper stripping commenced.
2/3 of the wallpaper is gone. Despite paying for it, apparently the installers never sized the walls before gluing the paper. It's a mess to take off. Glad we're paying to have it done......
Ready for plumber and electrician.
Cutout done for the new cabinet over the fridge.
New pantry framing is complete.
I can't believe there was this much stuff in the kitchen.
Oh, wait, that's not all!
Our interim dining solution. The orange monkey on the floor is a nice touch, don't you think?
Here's how we wash dishes now.
Corner area wired for the new stove top and microwave hood
220 run for the new ovens
This picture is my favorite; it somehow sums up the enormity of this project.
Window treatments are down.
Window treatments and door blinds down.
We're finally going to have this centered. This has bugged me for the last 15 years. The incompetence of builders is staggering.
I'm glad I'm not the one who has to put all of this together......
